The inception of SIC in 1997 sent shockwaves through the world of competitive bodyboarding, attracting international talents to challenge local heroes. Surfing NSW recognizes that this format, bringing together global riders to face off against the best local talent, has been the cornerstone of the event’s success. As we approach the 2024 edition, it’s clear – the legacy continues.

Event Waiting Period: May 24th to June 30th, 2024

The waiting period spans a month, ensuring optimal conditions for maximum viewership and media impact. Surfing enthusiasts can anticipate periodic media releases and engaging content to keep the public hooked during this exciting period.

As of January 9, 2024, the anticipation grows. The Bodyboard King Shark Island Challenge is set to make a thrilling comeback to the shallow reef slab. Surfing NSW welcomes the return of Cronulla’s only truly international surfing event, promising an unparalleled experience for both participants and spectators.

The last event in 2016 amassed a staggering 553,000 YouTube views, showcasing the global appeal of SIC. It found its place in national news outlets, including a special feature on Channel Nine’s Wild World of Sports program. Recognized globally as one of the most dangerous yet honorable contests, SIC remains a testament to the indomitable and is making its comeback for 2024.
